New Beginnings
On April 16th Mongrace Montessori House and Day Care Centre celebrated its 4th anniversary. This year the celebrations had an international flavor as we have been involved in a British Council initiative which helps in nurturing global citizenship in young people. The central theme was ‘ New Beginnings’ and the celebration was unique as we had guests of Chinese origin, Ms. Celina Chug and Ms. Casey Chug and Ms. Rin Zin Doma of Tibetian origin to celebrate this special day with us. Not only were we able to showcase the Bengali New Year celebrations through role play but we also got our guests to share with us how they celebrate Chinese New Year. The guests helped children to wish one another in Chinese and perform the dragon dance.

In keeping with the theme, all the decorations at the entrance were with colouring sheets made by the children of symbols related to the two festivals. As take home gifts children took the Chinese lantern they made in class . In the Scrap book they made symbols related to the Bengali New Year. The celebration ended on a sweet note with a fusion menu of noodles and rasagollas.

Tastes on My Plate
As part of our endeavour to Nurture Global citizenship in young people we executed the 2nd project of the Connecting Classroom initiative of British Council namely Taste on my Plate.Little Chefs of Mongrace Montessori House and Day Care Centre, Newtown discover a variety of food and tastes from India, Thailand, Italy and Russia through two activities.

The first activity was on 27th May. The little chefs formed groups and participated in a salad making activity. They made salads from Thai Mango and Cucumber Salad of Thailand , Pasta Salad of Italy and Alu chat of India with the help of their teachers. Wearing the chef caps made of newspaper, they took their role as helper chefs very seriously and were busy mixing and tossing the salads. They tasted the different salads and expressed their views.

The second activity was on June 27th when the Mongrace Chefs  discovered the taste of Russian salads  with the help of Aunty Maria Dhowotowa, a friend of Russian origin.  Our  partner school in Russia, as part of the British Council initiative which helps in nurturing global citizenship in young people, had sent us the recipe for Russian Vinaigrette Salad with Beets. She helped us make this and also the  Russian Cucumber and Tomato Summer Salad and the very tasty and attractive Russian Beetroot Salad. Through these group activities not only did the children have fun making the salad, but were helped to know about other cultures and also understand that salads are healthy eating options!

Golden Jubilee Celebrations
Mongrace Newtown participated in this historic event on 22nd January 2015.

The very creative team at Mongrace created the very apt and meaningful song to celebrate their love for Mongrace.Mongrace you are special …Yes you are!.

The other song was the beautiful children’s song ‘It’s a small world’. It was an effort to help children appreciate the diversity of our planet and spread the message of Global Unity.

The dance, was an effort to reiterate the age old Indian Philosophy, which tries to foster an understanding that the whole of humanity,  is one family,  through the song, Vasudhaiva Kudumbakam.

Summer Camp held from 23rd May- 31st May
There were 70 participants and the Summer Camp was a SUPER SUCCESS. This year the summer camp had the theme ‘Nature Art Camp’. The participants explored stories, songs, activities celebrating different aspects of nature.
